Design & CAD Draughtsperson
Fortress Technology
Build things that actually get made
Some engineering roles have you designing products you’ll never see.
This isn’t one of them.
At Fortress Technology, you’ll be part of a team designing and improving specialist industrial equipment that is built right here in Cambridge and used by manufacturers throughout New Zealand and around the world.
We’re not looking for a university-qualified engineer with years of experience. In fact, we’d rather talk to someone who has some drafting or CAD experience, enjoys solving problems, and wants to build a long-term career in engineering design.
If you’ve spent time using SolidWorks or other 3D modelling software and enjoy turning concepts into practical designs, we’d love to hear from you.
Working alongside our production team, you’ll create 3D models, fabrication drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation. You’ll see your designs move from computer screen to workshop floor and ultimately into the hands of customers.
The role offers plenty of variety. One day you could be updating an existing design, the next helping develop a completely new solution or supporting a custom-built project for a customer.
Most importantly, you’ll be joining a business that is happy to invest in training and development. We know the products we build are
specialised, so we’ll teach you what you need to know.
We’re likely to be talking to you if you:
- Have some experience with CAD or drafting software (SolidWorks would be fantastic)
- Enjoy technical problem solving
- Have a good eye for detail
- Like understanding how things work and how they’re built
- Want to learn from experienced people
- Prefer practical engineering to endless paperwork and meetings
Whether you’ve come from a drafting background, manufacturing, fabrication, trade training, or you’re early in your engineering career, we’d be keen to hear your story.
This is an opportunity to build specialist skills in a business where your contribution is visible, and your work genuinely matters.
If you’re looking for a role where you can build your design career without being boxed into a traditional engineering pathway, we’d love to hear from you.
